Sascha,

I thought I saw you posting on another board the other day. Could have been the AAW site (not sure).

Your turning skills and your photography are well established. I sure am glad you are back posting again.

I continue to be inspired by your work.

Glad your found your way back in here.

p.s. You still living in Cali and cutting hair?

Good to hear from you Sascha,

Glad you are back on your feet.

As always fantastic work. That is quite a rig for hollowing! Is that custom made, or store bought?

Probably showing my ignorance.

Again great to see you posting again.

Eric

it's a rig built by Randy Privett, a turner, don't know if he is on this board, he has a company called Monster tools.
he also has a captured rig, but I already had one by keith clark.

the articulated arm is really easy to use

with this kind of gloss, the only thing that would help would be a dulling spray that would dull the shine for a short moment.
the light source is a 4'x3' softbox, about a foot away, the further you go away the smaller the light dot would be but also the light would be harsher.
bouncing off my walls wouldnt work since the room is too big and no lights would show my living room lights.

I just gave up and did what it is, shiny and bright. usually with poly not a big deal. :D

Sascha, good to see you're working and that you've Polished your photography and turning skills up some (that high gloss is amazing!)

I just posted a link to this thread, Randy is a member over onhttp://www.familywoodworking.org , and I thought he'd get a kick out of seeing your rig in action.

I received my shipment today, I bought a few PL compounds and Wheel for lacquer/plastic and all I can say is WOW..........let me repeat this.....WOW. I buffed the lacquered pieces I posted here and I can't believe how easy it was to get to a perfect finish. I am blown away and in awe of the finish it leaves behind. I have never really buffed out pieces by hand, well once I did and ended up with a satin finish. this PL compound is just leaving it like glass and removes all the little blemishes and spots no matter how good my finish was, it's just simply better now.

so if you ever wonder how you can get a perfect rubbed out lacquer finish, look no further.

unbelievable

and again, thank you guys
