I remember the old John Wayne Winchesters seemed to never raise in value above their original cost of $695. Not sure what one is worth today.

Just the angle of the picture. The trigger guard is partly hidden by the foam.
Commemoratives sometimes will increase in value, if they aren't fired. But a lot of other factors enter into future value of any firearm as I'm sure you know. As has been said, anything can be a treasure after a few hundred years.
This one wasn't expensive - $450 NIB from a private collection. But, I didn't buy it as an investment, and I will be shooting it. Made by Tisas (Turkish company that has an excellent reputation for small arms). I have another 1911 .45 carry gun from them that is accurate and reliable, and several people I know are fans of Tisas guns.
Here's the website if you're in the market for a well made pistol in various calibers and models. There are many other companies also, that are producing fine 1911's these days. .45acp seems to be gaining in popularity in the last few years.
