I went to the lumber yard today to buy some heavy oak for a cannon carriage.
I really see no difference in pricing from a year ago with the oak.
2" thick red oak was $4.55 per board foot. That is a little less than I paid for it several months ago.
No real difference in oak pricing but huge difference in 2" X 4" and plywood.
It clearly is supply and demand.
Everyone uses 2" X 4" and plywood to work on there house but very few use 2" thick oak.
I bought 2 1/2" thick oak today at $7.85 per board foot.
That has been normal for boards that thick for years.

My buddy is a builder and he tod me of the horror stories of construction lumber. As far as hardwoods, I bought some hickory for some cabinets for my cottage several years ago and Paid $4.00 bd ft. I needed a few mor boards od hickory to finish the joband paid $4.50, so from what I see here in Southeast PA, Hardwood prices not up very much. Thankfully.
