Strangely enough, though Whidbey island is at 48N (approximately the same as Minnesota or Ontario) we are quite temperate- zone 8-9 (E) for planting... the same one we were in Tucson and a warmer zone than we had in San Angelo.
We have been taking advantage of this, and an early spring, to get some planting done
Over the last couple of weeks we put in
(flowers)
approx. 300 bulbs (gladiola, lilies, Anemones, Freesias, caladium) to go with the bulbs already on the property that are coming up now...
a magnolia tree
Jasmine
Veggies
Propagated cukes, peppers, tomatoes, collards, cauliflower, broc., broc raab, raddiichio, sweet and hot peppers, brussels
planted radishes, lettuces, carrots, beets, parsnips, peas, beans, onions, potatos, strawberries... and more that I can't remember...
Our Cauliflower and Brussels went leggy from too much time on the heat mat/under the light so we did buy some seedlings (I hate doing that) and I'll probably have to do the same for a couple more as I (dangit) dampened off a few plants with overzealous watering of our greenhouse.
Plus added
raspberries (added to our group)
Kiwi
Fig
grapes
Finally, we put in 15 fruit trees a couple of days ago...
2 apples (to add to the old tree we already have and the variety nearby)
3 pears, 3 cherries, 2 nectarines, 2 plums, a peach, 2 apricots... (and I made signs for each...)
I think we're done until late spring plantings... but we're having fun anyway. (oh yeah... and we put in 3 dump trucks of gravel... spreading one by hand, put a new window in the shop and pulled out a 10x20 outbuilding that had come down in a windstorm...
We're taking a day off this weekend to head to Vancouver... we're pooped!
