My Brother found this old 105MM shell in an abandoned house in the woods in South Carolina about 15 years ago and gave it to me then.
It has been on the floor in my study since then where I used it as a garbage can.

I thought about doing something with it but decided I better research it first.

With the help of some guys on a militaria discussion forum I belong to, and the numbers and date of 1962 on the bottom of the shell, it was determined that it is a 105MM shell for a M60 Abrams tank.
The 1962 date is an early date for that shell and is of the Vietnam era.

Since it was found here in the states, I don't suspect it ever saw Vietnam.

It has some value as a collectors item but it was pretty plain and had some corrosion on it.
I decided to polish it anyway and make a walnut and red oak head for it.
It's pretty cool but it is also pretty big.
I'll keep it now.

There must be at least $150.00 worth of brass in that shell!
But, it looks cool as is anyway. Good job.
