Just a question - nothing that's ever been a problem but curious:

When leaving the forum/board is it best to log out before closing the browser window of surfing to another location?

I just close the browser, Dennis. If you're not looking at the forum, you're not shown as being here. If you log out, you have to log back in the next time you come here. I would only actually log out if I were on a shared computer. Sunny Day doesn't use the computer, so I don't worry about it.

But, on the other hand, I do log out of my financial sites before closing the browser. It just depends on what I'm accessing.

Does that answer your question?

Verna

DENNIS S: I'm certainly no authority on ettiquette of any kind. What I do is log out every time I leave the WWA. I log in automatically when I come here so all I have to do is hit the Log in Tab. This way I feel I get all the new posts since my last visit. :|

You have the freedom to do whatever you want. I have tons of windows open on my browser all the time.

OK, n o biggie by any means. I do like you, Verna - I simply shut down my browser and leave it at that. Never thought about the issue with places like my investment or banking account, though. Perhaps it would be best to close them down before leaving.

We can consider this matter resolved as far as I'm concerned.

Dennis,

I know I'm a couple days behind this thread, but I don't generally view the Scrap Pile.

I would highly recommend that whenever you leave a site that requires a login, that upon leaving you LOGOUT.
The reason I suggest this is that the server side of the connection doesn't know you are gone. It can and will still send communications onto the web and will be perceived as open.
At least until the server senses "no traffic" for a period of time and auto-logs you off.

The potential exists for an unscrupulous hacker to highjack that connection.
While it is not likely, it is quite possible.

What is your acceptable level of risk?
;)
