Up there in Yankeeland? Hope y'all are alright. News says 3 million without power.

Hey Ned,

My wife, who grew up in Danville, Va, (but attended high school in Georgia) would have to argue that point, endlessly with her southern colleagues. For some reason, they didn't regard Va as part of the South (they called her a Yankee  ). Her usual ripost was that Danville was the last capital of the confederacy.

As a native of the Great Pacific Northwest, the value of these distinctions is lost to me, and in the interest of domestic harmony, they are not explored beyond simple acknowledgement.

Tom

Oh BTW- the weather is the same as always here, mild, wet, and occasionally, brilliantly sunny. :D

Hmmm , lets see if I remember this..

THe British called all of America Yankees. The Confederates called the Union Yankees. The Union called the New Englanders Yankess. The New Englanders called the Vermonters Yankees. The Vermonters call the people who ate apple pie with cheddar for Breakfast Yankees !!!

And yes I am a yankee....

Having said all that, Im not sure my brain has accurately replied, so I will be interested in hearing what others say.........

eric

PS my brother in S.Salem Ny had 6 or 8 inches I think. Don't know about the power though. He lost it for a week after the hurricane earlier this year.

Friend of mine from South Carolina was stationed in England on his first assignment (Grr). Said he finally stopped taking offense and responding when he was referred to as a "Yank." They didn't understand....

We had about 5" - 6" of very wet (and heavy) snow. Plowed and shoveled so the driveway would be clear when the family came over for my birthday dinner.

We got 2" of heavy wet snow, power was out for about 8 hours. Have the coal stove going in the cellar so we wern't cold. And we use natural gas for hot water and cooking so we had no problems there. Was about to go out and start the generator at 10 AM Sunday morning when the power came back on. Most people I work with got 12 to 20 inches, one fella had 31 inches. Many still have no power and won't until thrusday. Way too early for this stuff.

While the network news feed(s) tend to make the worst look bad, even if it's half as bad as what we're seeing out here on the left coast, my heart goes out to ya'll, Yank or otherwise.

So where in Vermont are you from? My family used to have a place in East Dover outside of Brattleboro. Many happy childhood (and more recent) memories of visits to the Green Mountain state!

"The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful."

But seriously, we just had another heavy wet snow yesterday. Today we're supposed to be back into the upper 50's, so it'll all be gone by tomorrow, and we're expecting some more snow this weekend. You know what they say about the weather here, "If you don't like the weather, stick around a few minutes, it'll change.
