OK it's the end of week 1 of moving in. I thought packing was fun.. this unpacking is even more joy lol.Boss & I are on shouting terms. Sweet lady don't know beans about what I do. Anyway she asked me to do something thats against at least 17 state & federal regulations. This was Mon AM the insuing shouting match kinda set the mood for the week. Tues. I explained to her the diff. between 200# per shelf (yeah still got a few of the dry goods store shelving) & 800# per unit. I'm putting stuff on shelves & having trouble getting clear weight ratings. Should be signs on the shelves before I start loading them, O well. Told her to put on her hard hat & safety glasses, when asked I calmly explained I was gonna put 800# on that 'unit'. Boss " but that will break it". Told her thats why the hardhat. At the old place I had 20" overhead doors & I can get a 30' pole thru them w/ a forklift. New place I have 7' 10" swinging doors. I can't get an 8' ground rod thru if it's stacked the wrong direction on the pallet. Just means I have to watch from now on, also means what I packed don't fit. Oh well I needed the exercise...

Break through!!!! If I block the swingdoors open, to me. That is facing the direction I coming from I think I can pivot the forklift & load enough to get thru. Told the GM last week I thought I could be up & running 2 weeks after moving in. Opps I was assuming. Still waiting on shelving. After I get unpacked think I'll do some WW on their dime. I'm moving out of bins & specialised storage racks biult 50+ yrs ago & into flat shelves. Sure looks like we need some 3/4 plywood bins & dividers Much of the stuff I deal w/ has not changed in 40 or 50 or 100 yrs. Properly designed bins will hold a bunch but it has to be loose items, boxes seem to change size every time you order. Take this stuff & put on a shelf & it spreads & spreads. I am out of shelves & ain't enough on order lol. Where I ran out I started stacking on 2x4 on edge. GM walked thru today & saw it. Suspect Mon AM their will be budget enough. In August we will have an open house, annual meeting, dinner blah blah blah would not do to have stuff stacked on 2x4 lol. Gradually as I turn my inventory now I'll leave stuff in the boxes but boy what a mess till then. OK I'm rambling & probably not making sense. Have a good weekend Jack

Hey Fish, I can't recall one time when the people who did the planning ever knew or asked or even cared what the people who had to do the doing wanted or needed. It would seem that when you reach that exalted level that you just naturally know what is best for all the little people, even if they are just too dumb to realize it.

I feel your pain.

The USMC has a doctrine that is useful for these kinds of situations: "Flexibility of execution is implemented via an emphasis on "commander's intent" as a guiding principle for carrying out orders; specifying the end state but leaving open the method of execution."

Ahh heck if I work at it a little I could say I had a very good day. This AM 2 racks that looked like they where intended to be used for wood shovel handle storage instead of steel rods 3/4" X8' showed up. Anyway the boss screwed up big time. When I in my calm adult manner explained that they would not work she quite vigorously explained to me that if I wanted anything else I would have to biuld it. Well OK... but I'm gonna need a new.... Gene, I've been saying "I'll make it work" all week. But I can't walk into a big empty box, well not empty had some shelves I'moved all, well most of them Mon  Till I got there Fri. I thought I had a functional warehouse intead I had a floor plan put together by someone that thought I needed a forklift to move a 3# insulator. What is tearing me up tho is breaking the law. OK I haven't been asked to tape & pillage just a little case of accepting possible hazordous waste & not having anything better then a heavy duty plastic sack to store it in. I have calls into a consultant the company has on retainer. I just wanna know my personal liability cause I have awful luck. And I just have trouble seeing a judge say well you were just doing what you were told to. We had a truck hit a pole yrs. ago. Transformer on the pole was contaminated, spilt when it hit the ground. Cost $98000 to clean up the spill & I'm being told to unload & store these transformers w/o containment, no spill responce plan & management that can't understand why I'm freaked out. When push comes to shove I can't realy tell my coworker to leave it in the back of his truck. But I sure don't like this. Jack
