Monday morning my 18 month old computer would not start after working OK the day before. Nothing would start. No safe mode, no restore, Windows repair couldn't fix it. Windows hard disk backup wouldn't work. Nothing worked.

After messing with it most of the day, I finally bit the bullet and formated the disk and did a total system recovery. Worked fine. Puts it back to same condition as when new. Of course, all the data, programs, etc accumulated since new were gone. I could reload the programs, but sadly, all the data and info I had labored over was gone.

Ta Daaaaa! Enter Mozy in the sky.

After unobtrusively backing up my data every day without bother or cost to me, Mozy's restore zipped from the clouds and stuffed the data from Sunday back in the rejuvenated computer. Not totally like it was before, but close. (who was that masked man?)

The moral of that story? Don't bet the farm on Congress or your computer. Have some backup.

How often should you back up your data? Depends on how much you can afford to lose.

Good show, Jess. Great reminder to people like me that get rather complacent between computer failures.
