How y'all fixed for essentials there? News stories say there may be some shortages in air-freighted goods due to the ash cloud.

We were airborne when St Helens blew, and even though we were on the periphery, not in the cloud on the way back to base, we took the paint off the leading edge of the wings. We went down from 30+ to 16 because the stuff spread faster at altitude.

Imagine they changed the engines as a matter of policy after we landed.

I was in Korea when St. Helens blew, but had a couple relatives downwind that had to deal with the ashfall. Some enterprising people made jewelry and such from the ash, which you can still buy at the Farmers Market, etc. in Seattle. :)
