Turns out I'm:
- Sitting on the back deck
- In 70F weather
- Enjoying the extended daylight
- drinking a bottle of wine a spurned pursuer gave my GF
- eating some cheese & apples
- contemplating how to spend a gift card to Woodcraft

Not bad for the moment!

Sounds pretty close to paradise from this point of view!
Hope GF is sharing the wine with you!

GF doesn't drink so it is solo this evening . . . . :(

However, I moved into the next phase . ...
- chocolate & chipotle roasted pecans
- dark Spanish chocolate

:)

I've got to figure out how to make the chocolate & chipotle roasted pecans myself.

These are left over from Valentines dinner for the GF. However, I think I payed about $0.40 per pecan half.

I expect to get arrested for carrying consumable that expensive!!

Time to figure out how to make them myself. They are incredible!

Ok Rockfish, now you've done it, you have peaked my curiousity regarding the chocolate and chipotle pecans.
Since I am an analytical chemist I must investigate this formally unknown ( to me ) combination of these two compounds adhered to the surface of a seed of the a member of the hickory family called Carya illinoinensis.
I have in the past done extensive research in the past of combinations of sugar, eggs , brown sugar, vanilla, salt and spices.
I will endeavour to find the recipe, and if by chance I find it I will share.

Is there any doubt anymore that I can shovel it? :D

Allen - Let's work on this together!! I promise it is worth the effort.

Turns out these are made in your back yard. The ones I had are from Nelly's in Houston. I bought them at Central Market which is an upscale brand of HEB. Not sure if you have them your way.

They are a lot cheaper on Nelly's site. Only $18.50 per pound.

Yields 3-1/2 cups.
1 lb. unsalted almonds and/or, pecans, and/or cashews
1-1/2 Tbs. light brown sugar
2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
1/2 tsp. chipotle powder
Kosher salt
2 Tbs. unsalted butter, melted
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Position a rack in the center of the oven and heat the oven to 400°F. Spread the nuts on a large rimmed baking sheet and roast until they start to brown, about 10 minutes.
While the nuts are roasting, combine the sugar, thyme, chipotle powder, and 1 tsp. salt in a small bowl. Transfer the nuts to a large bowl, add the butter, and toss well. Add the sugar mixture and toss again to coat evenly. Season with more salt to taste, transfer to small bowls, and serve while still warm. (These are also good at room temperature and will keep in an airtight container for at least 3 days.)

And, yes I know what that deck looks like! I had dinner there about a year ago...

I've cleared the view even more since you were here. I'm really enjoying it out there.

BTW, I just killed my first scorpion of the year.

How did I miss the whole scorpion encounter you offer?

I only get 2 or 3 scorpions a year. They are very docile and minding their own deal. However, they get the squash and flush treatment from me.

This may be TMI, but this morning I was debating if I should flush the scorpion before my morning rituals or not. Decided to brave it and all is well.
