Hi Robin...I certainly understand...having been there more than once trying to decide to stay or close...most recently, I posted I was closing to go drive a truck. Later decided to stay put and keep doing what I know best.

Good luck in your future plans!

Bob

oh Gurl you can always, always use your tools. there will always be people in need.

even minor home repairs, find what you need to do but if you can at all costs not sell off the tools then don't you have them. you will use them.

that is not just a fairly tale phrase either.

I've considered giving up the "business" end of woodworking, building and selling to others, but I would never sell my tools or give it up completely.

Robin, if you do decide to cut back, please don't stay away from here. We would all miss you so much.

Robin,
NEVER SELL ALL YOUR TOOLS!
If you want to get rid of extras or special items, that is one thing but, the core/basics should be stored until you physicaly can not use them.
I have known alot of mechanics that "left the business to never return" and two years later were trying to replace the tools that they sold for $0.10 on the dollar....Guess what, the prices did not get cheaper in that two years.
None of us know what a few months might change in our lives so don't make any hasty decisions today that you may regret a year from now.

Rog

Thanks, everyone. But this is the reality. Things haven't been good and while I would love to keep my tools, the reality is I have NO WHERE to put them. I am currently renting a room from friends and they have no space. A friend let me set up my refinishing in 1/2 of her garage. and that is full with my refinishing stuff. The rest of my shop has been in storage at the local church. They have been very kind to let me keep things there. I have no funds for a storage space, really. I was suppose to get things out after 2-3 months, it's been 6. And as soon as the snow melts (it's blocking the door to that shed), I have to get my stuff out. I have nowhere to put it, as I said, so it has to go. I hate to do it, but have no choice.
I'll keep doing the refinishing but the rest (TS, BS, router table, etc), has to go. :(

We all feel your pain with this decision. Years ago I had to put my shop into storage twice! I was fortunate that I have it back. I thought that I might have to do it again with my wife out off work for 5 months, but things are turning around.

So sorry about this, and I wish I knew of someone in your AO who could help. If I were closer, I'd be happy to house your gear for you.

Hope things turn around for you soon.
