Ooooh. Magic mushrooms. Haven't seen any of those since the '60's
Hey Gene,
I was first introduced to "
shrooms" when I was a child. My Mom and Pop read Lewis Carroll's,
Adventures of Alice in Wonderland to me, after they decided that Disney wasn't telling the full story.
I didn't fully realize the significance of the caterpillar's gift, until I heard Grace Slick's voice singing to me, at a party. From there, I furthered my education with a college literature class entitled, "Childrens' Literature Revisited".
After my first lessons in microbiology, I decided to join the Puget Sound Mycological Society, and learned a great deal about mushrooms, particularly of the genus
Psilocybe, and why I probably shouldn't be eating them (they grow wild in the lawns around here).
So now I stick to the wood mushrooms that grow in the forest, with a few exceptions like morels, and chantharells. I also have grown a few cultures of oyster mushrooms at home, which is a fairly magical experience, even if the mushrooms are not.
Tom
