I spent the first few hours of my birthday in the hospital and driving my SIL home. Most of the rest of my birthday was spent waiting and transporting her and my brother back home.

He was burned pretty badly on his hands with some less serious burns on his chest. He was working on a lawn mower when it backfired and caught some gas on fire, which caught his shirt on fire. He had some of the biggest blisters on his hands that I have ever seen. Wound up with first & second degree burns with just a couple very small patches of third degree burns on a couple of fingers. No skin grafts required at this point.

He's home now, but will be out of commission for 2-4 weeks. He's not in much pain and had fortunately paid his COBRA payment for his insurance after he lost his job.

Please keep him and his wife in your thoughts and prayers for quick and complete healing with no infection which is the doctors' biggest concern.

Thanks

Thoughts and prayers from here too.
As if losing his job isn't bad enough, thank goodness he had paid the COBRA.
It's a good thing that you are close to help them.

Holy cats - that was close. Glad it wasn't any worse - it sure could have been. Gasoline is pretty unforgivable stuff.

Keep us posted and let us know how he's doing.

Hey, John Boy, I know you didn't mind one bit spending your birthday helping your brother and his wife. You're a tremendous man for helping them.

I'm sure glad he's going to OK, John. Those burns are not fun. Be careful and stay helpful--they'll be needing it.

John, Yeah but just think you can really get him back on his birthday ..... You got woodworking shop tools with Sharp blades and they spin really fast!... Nah just kidding dont do that, i wish him a speedy recovery and hope he feels better soon. My dad had burns like that once when he was trying to light a pig cooker and it had a bad regulator leaking propane into the cooker...bent over to light the burners on the end with the access door and ....Kaboom flames went flying ....hands and chest ...no issues after healing and would never know it ahppend

John,
I hope he heals as quick as he can and has a total recovery.

Sorry about the the birthday experience, but you did good, and that is a gift in itself!

Regards, and salutations to you sir!

My brother's doing pretty good, so far. Just hope he listens to the doctors. He's not one of those guys that likes to sit around the house doing nothing.

Went to Lowes with him on Saturday to get hot dogs. The little stand outside our local Lowes has some of the best hot dogs around. Then we went back to his place and he coached me through an attempted repair of my vehicle. Looks like I need a different part, which he is going to track down for me today. The one we replaced didn't fix the problem, but it only cost $4. The next one is going to be a little more expensive. :(

He was chomping at the bit to get in there and do the repair himself, but he managed to restrain himself (with a lot of prodding from his wife) :D

I'll keep you posted on his progress. Thanks for the prayers.
