Is up!

So, just what do you think about biscuit joints? Fast and flexible joinery option or gimmicky method of sticking two boards together?

I do use them from time to time but, not for strength. I think they help alot in alignment and keeping things flush while the glue drys. Almost like the brads that Nam uses. :D

often, I've found that "not very strong" can be "plenty strong enough" in many cases-- would I use them for a chair? Absolutely not, but do I use them for alignment, adding strength, and ease of assembly on non-racking, low pressure items? Sure do...

When I was putting the top of that Kitchen Island together I used
the biscuit's to align the boards. Worked pretty well and did not have much sanding to do to level the playing field.

In my early days of edge gluing boards, I thought that they were the answer. How wrong I was. Now paying attention to edge gluing, I make sure the surfaces are even before I clamp it tight, works better and less sanding/planing to get a flat surface.

I have used pairs of them to make cabinet doors, plenty strong for that kind of application. The pair helps to avoid twist. Also strong enough for base cabinet construction.
