Locally, a bad virus has showed up named Pro 2010 (also other names). It masquerades as a legitimate anti-virus program and uses popups with warnings about problems on your computer. The popups become more frequent with time. This virus is difficult to get rid of if given enough time to get entrenched, and can eventually make your computer unusable.

You need to take some action if you are having trouble with continual popups along these lines, and I will be happy to offer some suggestions if need be.

LOL, Bob, but sorry I know from bitter experience that there is no solution to that virus.

Is this like Whack-a-Mole where you whack the pop-up when it shows up?

No. These are message boxes that pop-up filled with warnings about problems with your computer unless you get their anti-virus program to fix them. Several may be on the screen at one time, or when you X out one, another pops up immediately. These things are bad news.

I caught that one a few months ago and it really threw the IT guys here for a loop. It ended up corrupting the computer so badly they had to replace it and trash it.

I was told then that if you are surfing around and get a popup about anything having to do with anti-virus, do not pick on anything. As soon as you do anything, it'll down load itself into your computer. Immeadiately give the 3 finger salute, (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and end out of the program, (internet) that way.

Good luck Jess

When I have this happen, I hit ctrl-alt-delete and shut down Firefox from the the task manager. I don't even touch those blasted buggers!

BTW, you did prompt me to do a virus scan on my computer. I had 2 viruses on the computer. :( All better now. :)

Spybot S&D will search out and eliminate many of these viruses, provided you get to them early enough. Wait too long and they become very difficult to get rid of, and can make your computer unusable. Spybot S&D is available free for download at:

Spybot is great!!

Funny enough . .. . Kaspersky made me uninstall Spybot to install Kaspersky. I've since reinstalled Spybot.

Jess, to your point about getting too bad, my brother's computer got to the point last year where he couldn't even go to an Antivirus website. It was really bad. So, yes, don't let problems linger!
