If you read my blog yesterday, you saw that Dominic and I had built a catapult for one of his classes. Well, the teacher wrote back to Rhonda this morning:

========

Dominic's catapult worked beautifully yesterday! He was beaming with pride as he showed the class how it works and explained the details of the carpentry. He is so proud of his dad! The craftmanship of the catapult is exceptional! :o)

Thank you both for raising such a beautiful young man.

Good job folks! I'm sure he had a blast.

If you really want performance from this kind of project, then build a Trebuchet. Pound for pound, inch for inch, a well built Treb will out-throw a Catapult any day. It can be tricky to get the configuration down just right though... :-?

One of these days I'd like to build a really big one and throw a(nother) junk car into my neighbors yard.... :twisted:

Now get him involved with the "trajectory" event in Science Olympiad. All he has to do is adapt his design for space and precision.

Hey Tom,

Congratulations. Now just to be a stinker, ...was this a true catapult, or a trebuchet? Oh and BTW I don't remember seeing any pictures. :-?

More of the 'catapult' family

Trebuchet - Gets its power from a counterweight

Catapult - Gets its power from a bent timber or a twisted skein of rope(in this case, a twisted length of mason's string, but who's counting?)

It's actually based off a Roman Onager...
