safe....... er than dull. The usual reasons, more control on the cut, less effort to make the cut and so on. BUT, how sharp is sharp? When does the edge quality stop being an issue and sharpening uses up time away from a project. TORMEK, Arkansas stones, water stones, oil stones. Backs of blades being flat to create an edge when the bevel is worked. Here is an article that talks about diamond paste in the micron range.
