ZULUS thread about the aircraft carrier project, I saw rhe pictures of a gunport that is part of a display. I wondered how thick the "walls" were on OLD IRONSIDES the USS CONSTITUTION. I did a GOOGLE and found this URL and then the exploration began.

Please follow the "read more" click throughs on the pages, the story is both fascinating and inspiring to think that the original work was done with only hand tools :shock: . The article talks about a 30 foot scarf joint that is part of the keel of the ship.
