pull saws aka Japanese saws. Just as push saws have been evolving for specific purposes (rip, crosscut, dovetail, keyhole, back, gents etc. etc) Japanese saws are also task specific in that they have been developed to address different tasks. Here are Japanese names and purpose details.

Pull saws are obviously used differently than our usual push types and by nature of their characteristics take some time to become familiar. Of particular note is their blade thickness which provides some distinct advantages. These advantages should inspire at least a trial use. Maybe just an inexpensive big box purchase to flush cut plugs and dowels.

My pull saws are my first choice for most of my light cutting chores. Yes, they take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of them, I think you'll love the results.
