at this URL. I thought there were some interesting ideas on jigs and fixtures here that were easy to make and solve some problems when using a router or using a router for jobs rather than other tools.

the first tip is a great idea. I have some 3/16 aluminum angle that will work perfectly!

Knowing what I now about aluminum angle I know that it will not provide the needed rigidity to provide a truly flat surface, the surface will be dished. Years ago I built just such a jig using 3/4 ply in order to flatten a bench top. The side rails were 3 inches tall, now maybe that was overkill but it worked very well.

My 3/16" angle takes some pretty serious abuse. For a short run under 2" I wouldn't hesitate to use it. Lighter stuff, no way.

But, everyone has different criteria.
