Why is there NO universal hose coupleing size? All the mfg. of dust creating power tools seem to have dust porting/collection as a listable feature of their tools. If you have a variety of manufacturers tools that you work with, and you use dust collection you also have a large array of fittings and MacGuyver rigs to interface between tools and collector. This situation is puzzling.

There are some things we're just not supposed to know. (grin)

Actually, virtually every large stationary power tool I have has a 4" port. I've not run across anything else.

Perhaps I live a charmed life??

An issue or two ago WOOD mag. got on a rant
about dust collection couplings not mating.
May there is a rising tide.

DENNIS S: I agree that the stationary power tool mfg seem to have gotten onto the same page. There are so many tools that are portable with the many differences in dust port size however that need the adapters.
CLIPPER: That article must be where I got the bug in my bonnet, that and going from a router to a sander and having to find the MacGuyver solution.

Thanks for the responses! Anyone else bothered by the situation?

Hey Guys,

I've found that the closest thing to a universal adapter is a one quart cottage cheese container, or something like it. It's tapered so it fits well both inside and outside a 4" spiral wire hose. So cut the bottom out of one, and jam it where it does the most good.

Cheers,
Tom
