Twenty-five years ago, while on our Honeymoon in Belize, my Wife and I were walking down the beach and came upon a house that was being built right on the water. In the trash pile were quite a few drops of Cocobolo that were being used as support posts. I asked if I could have one and the workers said sure. I picked one that was 6" X 6" X 28" long and carried this 30 lb. piece of wood the half mile back to our beach resort, stuffed it in my suit case and brought it home.
It sat around for about 2 years before I cut off 2" of it lengthwise and made a small bathroom bench.

The rest of it sat in my shop for over two decades. After 25 years from bringing it home, my Wife said she wanted a chest made from it. It was now 4" X 6" X 28" long. I cut it into 5/8" thick pieces and got a top and four sides out of it. I made the bottom out of red oak. I also made all the iron work including the hinges.
Here it is. Turned out pretty nice.

No way! It's not that big. About 25 lbs.
That wood is heavy however. And hard! It smokes when you drill holes in it.

Some wood is as hard as brass. I once built a bench for a friend out of a large piece of old growth white oak that had been in his grandfathers barn over head for over 100 years. It totally destroyed my planer blades and I had to drill pilot holes .015 under the twinfast screws diameter or else the screws would break. .015 under screw diameter is what I drill brass when making ball pullers using twinfast screws. You did a great job(as usual) with both the wood and metal work.
