Hello fellow woodworkers; I need help. I finally found a project that I have never done. While I have built 100’s of raised panel doors -cabinets, entrance, etc.-I have never built French doors with glass lites over the entire door bordered by the rails and stiles. I want to make 2 that will end up being sliding doors hung on a track or rail for my study. My problem is I have searched everywhere trying to get instructions on how to fabricate both sides of the profiled grid that will hold the small individual glass panes. One site said to use a single full door glass and put a decorative grid on each side. That is not real design to me. So I just don’t know the correct way to create the grid that holds the glass and has the same profiles on either side and a track to mount the glass panes at perfect center. Hope this makes sense. If any of you can help that would be great. I have a big stack of red oak I harvested, milled and kilned from my property that is begging for this project. Thanks. Jim in Franklin, Tennessee….

there are a couple of ways to do this. Im a Festool domino guy so I would route my profiles, use a bit to cut the groove in the center of the piece to place the glass in then domino it.

There are also router bits you can buy. Here is one from MLCS . This
is their "how to" using their router bits

Heres another set through infinity that may work for you

Myself, I realize that using several small glass panes stacked together was the only way to get large glass windows or doors long ago. Now that large glass is readily available I don't understand why people would want to put "grids" over the glass the obstruct the view just to make them look like older panels/ I prefer to open look of larger glass panels. But if you really want to cur the grid sections to make small panes stackable, MLCS used to list router bits. Grissley did also.
