About six years ago our new pastor asked if I could make a new stand for the pulpit bible. The pastor thought that the one Bill Ward had made years earlier was too fancy and drew attention away from the actual Bible which should be the focal point. The pastor asked if I could make it to match the communion table. I replied, that I did not have any of the stain left that I had used when I made the table, but thought I could match it. The pastor did not know that I had made the table.I stained the table to match the alter and other woodwork in the church.

That's really nice, Donald! Did you do the lettering, too?

A funny thing about the lettering. When I made the table I lettered and stained the apron board before assembly since it would be easier to letter that way. The pastor and I were holding it up to the alter to see if the colors matched when in walked a first grade school teacher who said:"That isn't how you spell remembrance." So I decided to letter the back apron board and redo the lettering. My wife insisted on laying out the letters this time. As I was engraving the letters I got to the middle and said: "wait a minute there has to be a "b" in here.". So we redid the back of the first board. If you crawl under the table you can read" in remembrance of me " spelled wrong on one side, and "In rem" one the other side!So you could say it is a one of a kind table.
