I want to make several small boxes.. the liners are about 1/8" thick and measure 2"x 5".   I want to miter these liner inserts....I have used my chop box and table saw, but it's dangerous with the small parts.  I even made a sled for the TS.
I looked for a mini table saw with a tilting arbor...nothing.    I would use my handplanes, but don't know how to get a precise 45 and 'perfect' cut.     Any suggestions?

Do you have sled for your tablesaw?
I have such a sled. When necessary I have drilled holes in the sled for screw anchors. At least 2 hold downs, what ever will hold the material tight and against the sled fence.

Looked at your post again, you have the sled!! :-D

Hey Alan,

I often make small boxes with mitered corners. I use to use a sled on the table saw, but lately I have used a 45º router bit on the router table, also with a sled.

If you want to do this by hand, I suggest a "donkey eared" miter box/vise. It might be more work to make than you want to invest, but it would last you years and make many boxes.

Cheers,
Tom

I'd go with the Router table idea myself. I think the "fixturing" would be the most fun. :-)

I cut small pieces two ways: One, cut one end on a longer piece then cut it off to the length you want with wooden "trap" to hold the cut off piece. Two, use a sled with a clamp( or clamps )as needed. I never try to hold small pieces in my hands.
