I made a bed for the grandson. It took a lot of sorting to get the pieces for the posts.I quickly found four pieces to glue up for a post, but it would have not looked right with only one burled post. So I spent a day sorting until I found twelve more to make the other three posts. I feel that the result was worth the time!

Hey Don,

Nice work!
I know what you mean about sorting through lumber stacks for the best stuff. I do that whenever I can but it's a lot of work, so I also try to give credit to my help (thanks Kris). When I advertise my end product, I also try to give thanks to the yard that lets me comb through their stock and high-grade it. Finally, figure such as ray flecks in white oak are only visible because of the skill of the sawyer and not because of anything that I did, so I always credit them as well. Most of what we make is the end of a number of long processes and like any long story, the value increases with the telling.

Cheers,
Tom

The pieces I sorted through were from a batch of turning squares that were "burned and cased"" in a kiln malfunction. I got a large truck load for fire wood price.I stacked them on pallets crossing each layer and leaving gaps between each piece. I left them in the storage shed for a year, by then those pieces that were subject to cracking or warping, cracked or warped could be used for fire wood, the rest I re-stacked and used to make many projects.I figure I made over three thousand dollars profit off of that deal. All I needed was time and a place to store them.
