This beautiful keepsake box features figured maple and wenge. Luxurious hand rubbed oil and polyurethane finish and velour fabric bottom. The lid is hinged with brass pins and designed to rest on the back of the box when open. For such a small project this box has some significant challenges for a woodworker. I am absolutely thrilled with how these turned out.

That is so beautiful, Dewayne. The detail on the lid shaping....softening of lines, perfection of the shaping to facilitate opening is so well thought out and perfected....very inspirational. Thanks for posting!

Thank you for your comment Don. You know this forum is where I got a lot of my education and inspiration when I was a beginner. I got a lot of good info from good folks here. I miss Dave Knipher and there was a box maker Mark Valasi (spelling?) I'd love to show them this box.

And I still have problems changing a hinge on my shed door!

Thank you. I finally feel like I have earned the title. I’m sending high resolution pics off to Fine Woodworking
magazine to see if I can get it published in the project showcase page. I’d love to build more but I have a honey-do list that I have been neglecting.

Dewayne, do you remember Dave from Down Under (Dave Cairns) who built our Sunami Box? We all chipped in and it auctioned off for a healthy sum....It was a phenomenal box.

Don

I do remember the name and vaguely remember the box. I have this box for sale in a few groups in my community but no offers.

I also remember Dave, he was a class by himself.
He was one of the "old timers" around here, and sure do miss them.

Yes, I learned a lot from Dave. I’m still using his favorite finishing method.

Now your talking about Dave Knipfer...his 'Rude & Crude' finish...I still use it, too. The only thing on the market that compares is Liberon oil finish....goes on the same and dries a little quicker. The pure tongue oil in T & C causes a little slower cure time but it seems harder and more durable. I think DaveDownUnder used it, too.

If memory serves me right, which it doesn't do much anymore, wasn't Rude & Crude also nicknamed Weasel Spit? I still use that finish on most work when appropriate.

Yes, I’m using it on my boxes and even furniture. I step up the polly for the final coat.

I haven't heard that in a long time. How about the ugly box contest. Remember that one?
