Ralph,
Happy to see you're back. Not much traffic on this forum, may be partly my fault,I post very little. I do log on often.
Can't help you with your rain problems. I spent 3 days in London many years ago, the sun shown every day, guess I was lucky.

Hi Norm,

It sure is a far cry from the early days of 'The Daily Puzzler'. I would set a question every day and get lots of responses. This board would fill my inbox with notifications and the world was a much simpler place back then. I guess most people are on social media now and the forums are old technology - a bit like me!

The past year, here in the UK, has seen a spike in interest in all hobby interest subjects, including woodwork, due to the pandemic. People have been stuck at home with more spare time than they have ever had. It is not only woodworking that has had a sudden flood of new or returnee participants. One of the things we have been allowed to do during the national lockdowns has been to use our allotments as a form of exercise. The waiting lists has grown many-fold and we have no vacant plots. The trouble is, a lot of the newcomers don't realise how much hard graft it takes to get to the stage where you can sit outside the shed drinking a cup of coffee and admiring a plot full of fresh fruit and vegetables. I suspect that as soon as restrictions are lifted, a lot of people will give up their new-found interests and go back to what they were doing before; being entertained as opposed to entertaining themselves.

It has now stopped raining and has been dry for thirty-six hours, maybe we can get back to doing something in the garden...

All the best for the coming year, let's hope it will be better then the past twelve months!

Ralph.

Ralph, it's really good to hear from you, my Friend! I'm not here as much as I used to be, but I still try to come back every day. Please don't ever think about giving up this forum, some of my greatest friends still come by. I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder on Jan. 14th, I still can't do any woodworking. Here's one of my latest pieces.

Take care, my friend, and don't be a stranger!

An allotment is a plot of land rented to residents (usually by the local council) at a cheap rate. Our plot costs £20 per year. The original idea was for people to grow food to feed their family during the world wars. It was billed "Dig for victory" and used as a moral booster. It lives on today as a right, and is very popular. We (sue and I) have been growing stuff all our married life in a small way but now, in our later life, we have the time to do it properly. See here: https://losttheplotallotment.blogspot.com/

Now there's a thought. First I still have to get the workshop and turning shed built!

Ralph.

Thanks Ralph. That makes sense now. :-) We have found an interesting bit to help pass the time during this period. A pair of Road Runners are building a nest in the front yard and one of them comes up to the window for a snack of hamburger now and then. So it helps to "kill time" but not much exercise. :-)
