OK, it's been a week since Ron posted the last response. So here's what I want you to do. Tell us what you're working on in detail. What kind of wood etc. I'm building 3 trash cabinets with painted sides and oak door and top. The trash can comes out on full extension drawer glides. One is for a customer, 2 are for the Farmers Market starting Saturday.

Now, tell us about what you're working on. Pictures would also be nice.

Making a kitchen table.

The top is out of 5/4 poplar, the legs are 5/4 poplar laminated to 3x3 . The tabletop will be sprayed with a poly gun metal grey to match the lady chairs. The apron and legs will be sprayed with black poly. Oh and the table will be 38" tall so hr lady chairs will fit under it. the top is 38" in dia.

Then once finished with this project,

Ill rearrange my shop again,

build momma some raised container planters.

Shes started getting into container gardening. I might grow a few things myself,

Gotta of list of projects to do for both me and friends....

I am working on what I'm always working on.
Surprise! A cannon carriage!

This one is for an early 1800's bronze British 12 pounder. It will be mounted on a naval carriage.
The barrel is 52" long and weighs 800 lbs.
When I'm finished with this one I'll be starting the big carriage for the Alamo cannon that I posted about a little while back.
The wood is 3" thick red oak.

I've got about another two days of work on this but I had to order a 3 3/8" Forstner bit to bore the trunnion pockets. It will be here Friday. I will get it finished and turn it over to my lovely assistant for stain.

Hey Larry,

I'm working on a hexagonal tool box (from Jim Tolpin's toolbox book) to house my spoon carving tools. It's doug fir and veg tan leather. I'll have pictures when it's done.

Cheers,
Tom

Just finished up the bottom half of a chest on chest dresser. Can't seem to post a pic from my iphone. I did it before, but this time it says file size is too big?

Ok Ok Larry, Here ia a photo of a ladder bookcase I just finished, poplar frame sprayed with black poly and has a beech drawer

Photo of the table top 38" Dia made from poplar the legs are 3" x3" I just put a decorative bevel on the edges (not in photo) and assembled the legs to the apron. though my photos dont show that .

the legs and apron will be sprayed with the black poly. the table top will be sprayed with a grey poly to match her chairs. The legs are longer than normal as 38" ILO the normal 28" because of her chair height.

my buddy s going to do some decorative inlay (im not the artist type) and Im going to play with the finish a bit and maybe put this black stuff (dont know the name) on it to give it sort of a rustic appearance.

I got to test it first on a scrap piece to make sure it looks ok.

I wanted to use maple but the her budget wouldnt allow the extra cost of the maple

Nothing fancy, as i dont do fancy.

Negociating right now for a platform bed for a friend of my daughters.

That should be fun.

Well, my grand daughter is getting married in a year or so and she asked if I could make a ring box for her and the groom's rings to be carried by the ring bearer. What could I say? And of course I showed her a mother of pearl (abalone shell) inlay I'd done on a simple turned wooden box lid and suggested perhaps I could inlay their names in the box lid. That was before I'd done much looking into what it would involve.

So, I've got some drop dead gorgeous quilted maple for the sides and some black walnut I intend to ebonize for the lid and bottom, now to see if I can harvest enough flat MOP from the three boxes of shells I have, enough to cut out the names and date.

Don't hold your breath

Slowly but surely! After seeing Zulu's progress...I'm feeling very humbled to post my meager fumblings!
Zulu doesn't have a danged lazy cat directing traffic in HIS shop!
I didn't take any pics of the exterior work done this week, yet but the 'lean to' is taking shape. Will post some of that soon. Meanwhile the shave horse is nearing completion!
