Has anyone tried to use Hackberry wood.
Here they are known as a"trash" tree. Prone to splitting, Losing limbs
and they are a messy trees.
I have one that lost a 6 inch limb and the wood is stark white, with little or no grain.
Thought that it might be useful as accent for something.
I have not tried to work with it yet as it is still very green.

I have not used it, but according to Roy Underhill of the Woodwright's shop, it is the best wood for steam bending. When the grain is straight it apparently can be mistaken for ash, and when interlocked can be mistaken for elm.
