Going to try a scroll saw pattern "August Cross"
and since I am somewhat new to the art I would
appreciate some recommendations as to the blade.
I will probably be using oak or walnut 3/8 to 1/2 inch
thick.

Thanks
Duan

A lot depends on how intricate the pattern is. However I would suggest trying a few packages of #3, #5, and #7. You will just have to practice using different blades with the material you are using. There are NO hard and fast rules or suggestions to draw on to answer your question.
There is no teacher better than experience. Practice, practice, practice. That is what makes scroll sawing so much fun.
