Wheels finally showed up.
They are magnificent!
51" tall and 135 lbs each.

My lovely assistant will start the paint process.
It is pretty involved.

Paint the wood red/brown. Two coats
Paint the ironwork flat black. Two coats.

Go back and touch up the red/ brown where black paint got on it.

Go back and paint the black where touch up red/brown got on it.

Repeat.
Repeat.

It's not finished until the paint Nazi says it is.

I am still waiting on the barrel. Could be another two months.
I need it to finish the carriage.

Hey Zulu,

Those wheels are impressive. I imagine that they take about as much work to make as the rest of the galloper altogether.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
Those wheels are expensive. Custom made to my specifications. I got them from a wheel maker where I get all my wheels.
I have no idea how someone could make those for what I paid.

The wheels are "dished". There are opposing three degree angles on each end of the spokes to achieve this. The wheel "tire" is 1/2" X 3" flat bar.

These wheels have 12 spokes versus the 14 spoke wheels I use on my Civil War carriages.
The time frame of the Galloper carriage I am making is early 19th century when 12 spoke wheels were the norm.

Hey Zulu,
Looks great! Now all you need is a mule.
Cheers,

Hi Zulu -

Just scrolled through some messages and noted that you asked about where we all are. I'm still here but unfortunately haven't been doing much work in the shop lately. Won't bore you with the why's and where-fors but always check in to see what others are doing.

Hopefully I'll get back to the lathe in the near future. Got lots of Christmas ornaments to make this year.

Love you work!

I am still here, and still fascinated with your carriage works. I should post something about the two things that I have done this year. I try to get that soon.
