I had a tire come apart on me yesterday. Carter Urethane been on about 8 years. 14" . Looks like it snagged on something. Anyone else had this happen?

Hi Gene,
My band saw is a 1998 14" Craftsman. It was my first floor machine when I first started woodworking.
Some years back I had a tire come loose but I don't know why. I just glued it back on.

For whatever reason, (and I don't attribute it to skill) I have never broken a blade yet. I use 1/2" blades almost exclusively and tighten the tensioner down until it bottoms out.

This is the most used tool in my shop. I cut a lot of 2" to 4" material with it. It is horribly abused when I use it to cut firewood logs up to 6" instead of splitting them.
I don't know why I've never broken a blade. I get them from Grizzly.

Gene,
Didn't you say you had a blade break on you this year?
Could the blade have caught the tires at that time?

The "notch" in the picture at the bottom left looks like 3 teeth marks to me.
Unclear to me why it tore through the other area; although there does appear to be a nick at the bottom right of the tear.

I imagine that the slap-slap-slap of this occurring is less harrowing than the *bang* associated with a blade breaking.

I did break a small blade last spring, now that you mention it. That could have damaged the tire. I've used the saw several times since then tho with no problems. I'd just put a wider blade on yesterday when this happened. I'll have to remember to check the tires next time I break a blade. :x
