does anyone here have a 20" planer? I'm planning un upgrading when the new shop is done and have been looking at the Griz 20" with shelix cutters.

Am wondering if the shelix is worth the cost and how well a 3HP 20" planer does on wide maple or other hard wood.

i have a 15" powermatic planer that just last week i converted over to a shelix - high recommendations - ran some highly figured maple and then some very curly canyon live oak (one of the hardest woods i've seen) - and not a tear out at all. another bonus - it is much quieter than the spiral/straight blades.
so i think if you use lots of high figured woods the shelix is worth the investment.
