...to complete the first one, of three, panels.

I'm definitely a "one off" type of woodworker.  I don't mind making a repeat of a successful piece, but I really dislike assembly line fabrication of matching components.  So when I'm faced with a producing a set of identical drawers, or in this case, frame and panel assemblies, my overwhelming urge is to complete the first one from start to finish.  Of course, that method of work is terribly inefficient, and I won't do that, but the pull of the dark side is strong with this one (sorry, Star Wars reference).

The nicest part of today, and the next few days, is that the only power tool I used was the electric chainsaw, to cut firewood.  Everything else was accomplished with blissfully quiet hand tools; making shavings, not dust. It's very gratifying to now and then reconnect with my hand tools, and a different pace of work.  I'm looking forward to working on the second one tomorrow.

Cheers,
Tom

Looks good Tom. I like that design, is it Greene and Greene?

I'm with you Tom. The temptation is very strong to complete one unit.

I have, in the past, selected one item from an unseen area of the overall project to complete one unit.
Especially if the joinery or the finish schedule is particularly difficult.

Those really do look as great as the "sketch" from your other thread.
Perhaps I miss understood it, but are you going to have a heron on these somehow ?

Hey Dan,

Yeah, I confess that I too have occasionally completed one of many reps, in the past.

The herons are, at this point, just for study. The artwork in the previous post is clip art off the web, and probably copyrighted by the artists. As long as I use them for study only, they fall under the "fair use" clause of the copyright laws.

I feel like the spaces are calling out for some type of infill treatment, but at this point I don't feel confident to do the work myself. I can either:
1. Copy another artist's designs, with their permission of course.
2. I can commission another local artist to do the work, and share the profit of course, or
3. I can wait, for now, and learn to do the artwork myself.

As the panels are not even completed, and the screen is not yet fully assembled, doing nothing seems to be the most prudent course. But who knows? Like I said in the previous post, I'm making this up as I go along.

Cheers,
Tom
