How wide is the opening? That less the thickness of the two slides should give you the dimension of the drawer.

just about every side mount I've used requires 1/2" PER SIDE.

I mean the max size over all.
My drawer is 40"? Is this drawer to wide for the slides to handle? Or will the drawer bind in the middle.

I think the question is, how wide can the drawer be, not how much clearance is needed for the slides. That being the case, I have three drawers under our cooktop that are a shade over 33" wide. Wife stores here SS cookware in them. No problem with capacity but be sure to pay attention to the load rating of your hardware. Mine are full extension rated for (as I recall) 100lbs.

I installed a 33" drawer on full extension soft closeing slides a couple of weeks ago, works great, Now I have 17 more to do.

p.s. I can tell you that installing them into exixting cabinets that where made 55+ years ago without them in mind is no fun at all. Also in a house that was moved 75+ years ago and henceforth does not have a square corner or plum wall in it. The house settled about 4 inches from front to back after the move And it is downright painful squeezing your fossilized body into those holes in order to screw them in place level and square. Not enough arms & hands, Oh and having to use those plastic mounting pieces to mount them to the face frame and in the back where there is nothing to attach them to. Nope, no fun at all. There is however plenty of time because I AM RETIRED, Have I told you that before, I think I have. I am RETIRED and I just love it. That's right I was tired yesterday and I am tired today :D

I would think that supporting the bottom and/or the weight would be more a
problem esp using 100lb drawer slides.
I have seen map/drawing drawers 48 inches wide but they are thin and do
not carry much weight.
