This is for my wife's niece. Cherry and maple. The interior trays have a piston fit - a first for me.
It may not be obvious from the photos, but the panels have an arched profile that comes out from the plane of the panel.

For those who want the geeky details, I made the panels by writing a Python program that spits out the g-code to drive the router. There is no drawing behind this anywhere. I can enter parameters for the size of the panel, the height of the arch, the depth of the chord on curves, the spacing. Out comes a program that I hand off to the CNC router. This was cut with a 1/2" round-nose bit. Takes about 10-12 minutes to cut each panel.

While the CNC created an interesting pattern upon the Maple, I'm more interested in the secrets behind the joints that make up the corners.

The corner stiles appear to be one piece providing structure to two sides of the box.
Are the rails simply attached in a rabbet?
How are the panels held in place?

Maple and Cherry are always an excellent contrast.
I like the box very much.

Love the piece- especially the knob.... well done!

CNC? That's cheating! (Of course I'm kidding... I love CNC use in woodworking and think you did so very cleverly here)

Once again, nicely done

Yes, the corners are one piece, with rabbets for the adjoining faces. The rails are glued to the panels. Yes, it's a risk that humidity might break the panels free from the rails, but with the small size I was willing to take a chance. The assembly sequence was to glue the rails to the panels, then trim the rail length. The corners were the glued to the face (vs. end) panels. After that had set, the two faces were glued to the two ends forming the box. The bottom was inset in a groove at the time the ends were glued to the faces. It was a bit tricky, but came out reasonably well.
