My Dad,Grandfather and my self built this trestle table when I was 15 years old.
40 years of time and the old gal looks pretty good.
I decided to refinish the top only. When I got the thing home it was bumpy as can be.
I remember belt sanding the top only. We didn't have many tools back then.
The 2" pine planks had been glued only. Its amazing the thing never split.
My poor dad had a bad stroke 3 weeks ago and sanding this table has been a
Emotional roller coaster.

8) That's really cool! I wish I had kept some of the things I made in High School, a long time ago.

Hey Frank,

It's nice to have that kind of project to work on, and yet I know how tough it can be to do it. I miss my old man in the shop nearly everyday, and always when I'm in a difficult fix. I hope your dad recovers, and that you get to spend some more shop time with him. Just having Pop watch me work was a joy, just like when I use to watch him when I was a boy.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for posting this, Frank. It is very positive confirmation of exactly why I chose this vocation subsequent to my life career.
That table is tangible evidence of your grandfather's, your father's and your own goodness and love for your family. It embodies the elements of a tree that was created and lived through many storms before surrendering and was then resurrected with the passion, skill, effort and love of the three of you to convey your love and care for your family. It will carry that love into the future with the strength of the creators.
good luck,
Don
