My old random orbital sander died after years of hard use (PC 333)
I have started to look for a new one, any suggestions?
I have a limited budget.

If it stood up to "years of hard use" why would you want to change brands now?
I have a PC that I bought at Lowe's a few years ago and I don't use it all that much but, it works just fine. I have had to replace the Velcro pads twice but, it was my own fault. I was using Abranet sanding discs on standard pads but, I have since bought a pad designed for the Abranet discs and all is well. :)

The current replacement appears to be poorly made and vibrates badly

Last year I purchased a Bosch ROS Model ROS65EVC, and have been very happy with it. It has the 6" pad and very little vibration, along with variable speed. I've been using the MIRKO sanding disks with it and have had good results. I'm familiar with P.C. products but have not had a ROS from them so I cannot make that comparison. Don't know if this helps, but I like mine.

Makita. Had a Makita BO5021 for many years. Bought it refurbished at a good discount. I liked way it felt and the job it did for me.

I replaced it with a Makita BO5041. Also purchased refurbished and I love it.

Try this site: http://www.factoryauthorizedoutlet.com/ ... it-sanders

You can also Google search for CPO Makita. That is where I got my refurbished model.

Monte, I have several ROS's, but usually reach for a Porter-Cable 390 low profile 5 inch that I bought several years ago. It has worked as good or better than any other but the nicest feature is when you shut it off it takes way less time to spin to a stop than any other I have. It is variable speed, which I rarely use, fits my hand nice, gives a good finish, and the H&L makes changing grits easy & quick. The one downfall is that the on/off switch is not easy to use with one hand. Other sanders, just reach a bit with a finger on the hand holding the sander and switch it on or off, this one either have to change how holding it or use other hand. I bought it from Menards on special for about $60.00 but now they are a bit over $100.00.

Hey Monte,
I have several PC's but my 'go to' ROS is this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-6-in- ... /100523155
I've had it for 10 years and in never skips a beat. Hands down the best sander I've ever used. I hook my shop vac up to it and it works great with Mirka or any other H&L. Metabo had one just like it but quit making it just before this model came out. I think it cost about $75 or $80 back then,,,little more now but IMHO worth the money.
Let me know if you don't get yours replaced readily...may just give you one of these PCs for the postage.

good luck,
Don

I have the DeWalt 5" ROS. I like the weight, and size, has dust collection tube bag. The on/off switch is front of the top, just a little finger stretch to work it. It has the 8 hole H & L pad which works quite well. I got it about 5 yrs ago and it is always handy to use. I have had two craftsman 1/4 sheet ROS and they failed within a couple of years, very noisy, heavy to use and just plain no good. It was all I could afford at the time.
