Well, there is not much going on in the forum so I will bore you with another ammo chest but this one is a little different.

My customer wanted one of my normal chests but he wanted some custom design work done on top out of metal and painted. He designed the metal work and provided a picture of the colors he wanted in the paint work.

I made the chest and put a 1" X 1/8" band around the lid. This band extends above the top by 1/4".

I had the metal work cut on a PlasmaCam. A piece of 22 gauge metal exactly the size of the lid drops in first. Then the 1/8" black piece with the rocks, cannon and light house drops in on top of the 22 gauge.

After that, a 1/16" thick strip of land drops in giving everything a three dimensional look.

I had the paint work done by an air brush artist.

Then I epoxied all the metal in.

My customer has not seen it yet. He will pick it up week after next.

Here it is.

:Jaw-Drops-to-Floor:

No doubt that the pictures are failing to depict the true 3D look to this piece.

Man o man, is that fantastic!

Filled and leveled out with epoxy, eh? That alone is tricky for a piece that large.

MICHAEL!!! Your posts never cease to amaze me. Thank you so much for sharing your work...it is always and inspiration and THAT is the most important purpose (IMHO) of the forum.
This piece is a work of art....literally....and deserves to be displayed. I hope the recipient honors it's worth.

Rarely do I fail to be impressed with your work, Zulu. This is certainly no exception, either.

Inspirational to say the least.

Wow! Thanks for the great comments.

Dan,
The epoxy was used to secure the 22 gauge sheet to the wood top and then to secure the remaining metal pieces to the top of the 22 gauge sheet.
Everything was painted separately.
There are three pieces on top of the 22 gauge sheet. The black and the light house are one piece of 1/8" plate.
The long strip to the right of the light house is another at 1/16" and the small piece to the left of the light house is another 1/16" piece.

You know when I see your posts I skip directly to the pictures, right?
I'm like a kid a Christmas ... skip the card and get right to tearing off the wrapper to get to the contents!
:D

Reading comprehension does, however, sometimes fail me.
Thanks for the clarity.

Hey Zulu,

Stunning work, the three dimensional aspect really makes the scene pop.
You said that the customer provided the design, so maybe you can't answer this: The lighthouse is painted like the Cape Hatteras light, but I don't recall a battery near there. Is it just artistic license? Do you know why that design was chosen?

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
The light house is the Cape Hatteras scene.
The cannon is artistic license.
My customer provided me with these two pictures.
The colors he wanted and the drawing he wanted. I suggested the different size pieces for the three dimensional look.

The prize winners here are the air brush artist and the guy with the PlasmaCam! The guy with the PlasmaCam copied the drawing on to a piece of tracing paper which he taped to his computer screen, then traced it with his computer.

My traveling customer came by today from Colorado and picked up his two ammo chests.
He was very pleased with them both.
He is the one who bought the first strong box ammo chest I built. He picked both of them up today.
What could be better than a happy customer??? :-D :-D :-D
