WOW!! That's a monster!! You're going to be cutting a lot of wood with that.

What messy workshop? At least it shows you've been in it!

And, it's not just anyone's woodworking shop that needs a pallet jack in it, Eric!!!

Hey Eric,

Nice saw, now tell us more about it!
What make is it? Where did it come from? Does it have ball bearings, journal or Babbitt bearings? What type of motor and hp?
Fill in some of the blanks, will you?

Tom

Very nice. I've always known that if I ever run across one like that, I probably won't be able to resist temptation.

Hope it serves you well.

Ill post more pictures soon. Dennis how did you rotate it? it was right on my computer, but showed up skewwhiff in the post....

Tom Im not sure about the bearings. I think Ball bearing as there are grease nipples. All the machines I have used with babbit bearings had oil cups, but I don't know if that means all babbit bearings did? There is certainly white metal in the beast. the guide shaft hole is white metal, as are the trunnions. I was going to put a single phase motor on it, but after looking at how inexpensive VFD's are getting a ordered a cheapy to run the 3 horse 3 phase motor. I like the idea of a slow start on such a heavy thing (if it works I might convert my combination machine to 3 phase too!) However ordering the inexpensive one may turn into a nightmare ie "long after the cost is forgotten the quality remains"

It was on ebay, and only 2 hours away. It cost 500, I think its a steal, but only time will tell.

More soon,
Eric

Actually I copied it (downloaded it) then rotated it in Photoshop. Then uploaded to the "bucket", copied and pasted te Url to the forum.

Kinda odd that it would appear correct on your monitor then not in the group.

Hey Eric,

I like those old ads too. There is a website where you can buy a vintage magazine page of the ad (if they have it). I did that for my warehouse cart. I'll try to find the address for you.

It's interesting that the ad says that belt striking gear is available for line shaft drive. Now, all you have to do is equip your shop with a central line shaft power system, and you'll be able to go totally retro! You do have a waterwheel don't you?

Cheers,
Tom

Wow Eric, she's beautiful! I like the old ad without any blade guards. Those were the days. Are you going to make one for the top? What about rust? Does she need paint? How about a new set of tires? Looks like a lot of fun and I'm a little jealous.

BTW, how's that baby slider of yours I see in the background? I can remember when you got it, if my memory isn't too far gone. When was that? About 15 years ago? Are we getting old or what?

Again, congratulation!
Jim

Hi Jim,
The guard came with it, I just had''nt reassembled when I took the happy snaps of it.
As for the tires, I think they may be fine, but time will tell. Im still in the process of getting the VFD sorted. I think its going to work, but if not I will reroute into using a 3hp
single phase motor I have, but that will take a bit of stuffing around too! I don't know about your world, but nothing goes fast in mine...

The baby slider grew up a few years ago. The little SCM 8 footer(just barely) was a really good machine for what it was, but a couple years ago I found a 3 year older, but much heavier 10 foot wadkin panel saw. Its single phase too, but has separate motors for the blade and the scriber, and also I can put a 15 inch blade on it when I need to.

Yes we are getting older. The baby boy I used to talk about just started university!

Cheers,
Eric
