Here are some pictures of a pair of naval carriages I just finished for these stout little brass 24 pounders.
The barrels are 13" long with a 1" bore. They are 17 lbs. of brass. They really bark when fired!

One is sold, one is for sale, and the unmounted barrel will soon be mounted and will be posted on my website at www.jmelledge.com

Hey Zulu,

Beautiful work!
But they look more like 24 ouncers, rather than 24 pounders. What's the scale?

Tom,
They are really not to true scale. For as fat as they are, they should be longer but I'm not the one who makes them.
Probably around 1/9th scale as they are.

Hey Zulu,

Wasn't there a hybrid between the carronade and the cannon, call the "cannonade"? Maybe that's what they are. But then again, all carronades were iron.

Tom,
A cannonade is a bombardment of cannon fire.
There was a gun called a gunade. It was basically a carronade with trunnions.
Normally a carronade had a lug on the bottom of the barrel that mounted to a carriage instead of mounting with trunnions.
Trunnions are the mounts that stick out on each side of the barrel.

Hey Zulu,

Yes, I think "gunade" was the hybrid I was thinking of.

Have you ever considered making a carronade carriage?

Tom,
So far, I have had no reason to make one. I did however, make a gunade barrel and carriage out of wood.

This is a full scale 12 pounder at 39" long.

ZULU: This is the first of your work that I've seen which has the trunnions in bolted caps. A size or style thing, as you've said they are not to any set scale? How are those barrels shipped to you, crated or boxed in cushioning?

newtooth,
When the scale gets really small it gets harder to do the capsquare bolts correctly.
The brass nuts are not proper but are functional and look good.
The barrels come packed really, really well in cardboard boxes.
