Here is a cannon I just finished for a well known local restuarant. It will soon be on display there. It is modeled after the "Come And Take It" cannon on display in the Gonzales, Texas museum.
The barrel is full scale at 21 1/2" long. Due to space constraints at the restuarant, it is mounted on a wooden block in the same fasion as the carriage in the museum.
It has no trunnions and an oversized cascabel.
The barrel is one of my wooden creations painted to look like old metal.
The cannon in the museum can be seen at this link.

I would have never thought that cannon wasn't metal!

You should have a matching pistol to go with it:
The Sig Sauer Spartan 1911. Molon Labe.

My lovely assistant gets all the credit for the paint job.
The barrel is cedar and the base is fir. In staining the base, everything I tried soaked in too much on my samples and was too dark. I ended up using brown shoe polish in paste form. It didn't soak in and gave me the color I wanted.
The iron bands were heated red hot and beat hundreds of times with a ballpien hammer then cleaned up. They were too shiny so I covered them with yellow mustard and left it to dry. Then just washed it off. It left the dark patina and traces of rust that I was looking for.
It can be seen in my portfolio here on my website.

You know, every time I see one of your post for the first time, I take a quick scroll through the pics before reading.

I WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED    WHEN I SAW THAT BARREL IN THE RAW! Looking at the finished product with it's paint, I thought for sure that you had built the mount only, for a cannon someone had found. OUTSTANDING!
