I wanted to show you all my new Torchmate CNC Router 2x4, I still need to make a table for it. The cutting area is 24" x 48", the Z axis is a K2cnc with 5" of travel. Torchmate sells these as plasma cutters and have their own router z axis accessory. I bought this without the z axis and bought the z axis from K2CNC. I am planning on using this for wood and metal signs.
I will make a water table that will be under the wood table, top will lift off to access the water table for plasma cutting. The router mount I have is for the bosch colt and with some thin shims it holds the new Dewalt 611 router. K2CNC makes a mount for a plasma torch holder that bolts onto the z axis, change over should not be too time consuming.
Regards!
Ed

Wonderful tool. I have been interested in those for inlay purposes. I have seen them do both the positive and the negative for inlay.

I look foward to seeing it in action.

congratulations,

James

Although I have access to one at work...

I'm still green with envy! :D

This deserves a hearty "you suck"!

I'm not sure what qualifies as past YOU SUCK but I think you've accomplished it. What's the first project?

Ed, you've joined an exclusive club known as the people I envy the most. I don't think I'd give up any body parts for one, but a CNC machine like that in my shop? - we're talkin' super OTU.

Great score. What kind of software drives it?

tell us more!
Why the K2CNC Z-axis instead of the Torchmate?
Does it integrate directly into the controller?
Did you buy the Torchmate directly from Torchmate?
Will you be using their software? Are there any other sources for software?

I bought the the CNC directly from Torchmate. I did not quite like their design for the Z axis and it is almost an $800. The Torchmate rides up and down on dovetails, I have heard this is slower and not as smooth as the bearings on the K2CNC. The K2 Z axis with Bosch Colt mount was $349 delivered, plus $50 for the stepper motor. So this route was half the cost of Torchmates Z axis. When I ordered the Torchmate CNC I requested the controller have 4 axis boards. The standard is 3 on the plasma CNC, 2 motors for the Y axis and 1 for the X axis. The Torchmate comes with its own driver software that will accept any DXF G Code files.

Gee as a retired machinist I can not imagine why someone would want to use a computer for woodworking. Which is why I retired. I did not like computers for metal working!. As I tell/ask the kids when I substitute teach: What happens to people in industry who don't keep up to date with the new technology?.... They become substitute school teachers!! :D :D

Man, that looks AWESOME! If you have any problem finding DXF files (especially 3d puzzles) please let me know as I have a rather large (and growing) collection and I'm more than happy to share.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments!
Lawrence where do you get your 3D DXF files from? I don't have any yet and will be looking for some.

Regards!
Ed
