I haven't posted a project for awhile and this one is not all that much but, maybe it will get you enthused a bit.
It's a Christmas gift for my son (I dont think he will se it on this forum so don't tell!)
It is mostly a scrollsaw type deal but, Goodoldwhatshername thinks it's cute. It is cherry wood with walnut trim and several coats of wipe-on polly.
Oh yea, forgot to mention that Jay plays in a band and at church and the whole family is getting into music in one form or another.

Getting the clock and strings in at the same time was a bit 'fiddley'. The frets are steel wire and the strings are safety wire (Thanks to Uncle Sam from back in the '60s :D ) Oh yea, it is 18" tall/long or whatever.
Hope it inspires you to get started on Xmas gifts and to "Think Outside The Lines"

Rog

I hope you didn't have to fret too much getting them on! Perhaps we can strum up some support for you for the next one.

Well, I DID fret with the frets and strumed with the strings too. Did you ever try to unroll safety wire from a spool and get it stright and smooth over a length of 20" or so? Well, let me tell you, it aint easy!! I clamped the end in a vise and pulled with pliers and ran my fingers along the length trying to smooth it out as much as I could and then when I cut it, it would curl up into a spring!!!  Now put that springy thing into a hole at one end and try to get as much tention as you can to the other and HOLD IT!!
It aint easy but, I gotterdone! :D

Unique, as usual, Roger. Looks like it will be a great gift for your son--maybe he'll compose a song for you
