Hi All,

I finally finished the built-in cabinets and mantel for my living room. SWMBO can't understand why I didn't paint them "Larry Green."

Thanks for looking.

Looks very nice, funny how the whole room transforms with an addition like this.

Take care,
Carlos

Oooooh, pretty.

I love the way they take that dead space around the fireplace and make it a major architectural element in the room.

The white paint also adds crisp detail and doesn't compete with the wood floor.

How'd you assemble them?

Thanks for the all the kind words.

TT, I did not use any fancy joinery. The plywood boxes are made with butt joints, biscuits and screws. The face frames are assembled with pocket holes and are attached to the carcasses with more pocket holes.

It looks great i have an area in my home where my wife wants a built in oneday.... just not soon cuz well im not ready for that stuff yet! Only one thing that catches my eye is i am a person who likes symmetry and the Tv to the left throws me out of balance. I know it might not have been easy or possible to put the tv above the fireplace but it wouldnt stick out as much in my opinion. Still Kudo's on the great work on the built ins and other work as well.

It looks good! The problem is that now I have to do that too. It's going on the list.

VERY nice job on those built ins. It's amazing how much some ww'ing skills and tools come in handy when doing trim work isn't it?

Nice job

Jeremy,

Actually it would have been a lot easier to put the TV above the fireplace and have symmetry between the cabinets. But it's not about symmetry, it's about mama and if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy

Joe,
Nice improvement to the look and feel of the room. I like the soft arch at the top of the units. You've added valuable space and storage, well done.

By the way I grew up in Norwalk, and spent many a summer on Candlewood Isle.

Great looking addition! It really "dresses" up the room!
