I needed some 2x white pine, and the basement was bare. I knew I had some from a long time ago in the shed, so out I went and cleaned my way in. Between a 2x16 and a 2x13 was this maple 1x10. Took me quite a while to remember how I got it. It's been skip planed badly to 15/16, but I can see a future for it after some time in the basement.

I think I swapped him a curly birch for it.

IIRC, there's a 2x8 and a 2x6 small eye under the black ash on the basement rack, too.

That's quite a find. I'll be waiting to see pics of what you turn it into.

man.. you got holes in your maple... sorry about that.

Tell you what, I'll trade you some nice clear maple for that piece. I'll even pay shipping ;) Am I a good guy or what?

A lot of boards like the one pictured are rejected after skip planing by automated scanning machines. They end up as flooring or pallets, where nobody has to match anything.

I'm hoping I use it this year, because I have all kinds of "special" pieces I'm too timid to use. Once it's made, it's gone.

DON'T USE THAT WOOD! Birds eye maple is VERY HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH AND TO THOSE YOU LOVE! Quick, don all chemical PEP and box it up and ship it off to yer' ole buddy Ice Pirate, I have contacts who I work with and we can SAFELY dispose of this Bio Hazard. No, I require no thanks nor compensation, I do this free of charge to keep my dear friends safe. :D :D :D
