After my planer tune up, I had all the plans in the world to finish up the cutting board blanks I had glued up.

HOwever, there was a problem. I thought I had a sawdust backup, but it turned out to be a screw loose, literally.

In just a single pass, I went from normal operation to this:

I tore into it and found this:

Pulled the hold down plate off and checked the threads:

So, hopefully it is simply a matter of ordering a new plate and a set of screws.

I'm still trying to figure out where this came from:

*sigh* so much for the best laid plans.

Glad you stayed safe!

Since no one got hurt but the machine it turns into a learning experience,
not a tragedy!

Hope the machines heals inexpensively!

Not the least bit pretty. Thank goodness it was just mechanical damage, no living tissue involved. Good luck on the repair.

Thanks guys, it's just a 'replaceable' part, relatively minor in the greater scheme of things. I 'lost' one board plus the parts. So, annoying, but fixable.

Thanks for sharing, gonna make sure I always tighten them good and snug. Most importantly, I am glad no one got hurt!

I'm Really careful around that beastie... the pinch points are easy to avoid, and I absolutely Always unplug before going anywhere near the blades. I simply didn't cinch that one screw down enough. That's why I said 'mishap' and not accident (to my mind if there's Ned Juice on something it's an accident, otherwise it's a mishap)

I had zero time yesterday to check for parts, but this morning I just found a site and including shipping I should be good to go for about $25

I hate seeing the word mishap in a power tool post. Glad to hear it didn't involve any body parts. I'll be checking for loose screws too.

Ooooh! Spare parts!

Actually, after my wee mishap, I'm glad to see no blood or stitches...
