After what seems like forever I've finally finished the coffee table for the living room. Thanks to all of you who helped me with the finish problem. I sanded the wood down, put on a coat of thinned shellac and built up satin poly from there. The finish still needs a coat or two to fix a couple of spots but the weather has gotten too hot and humid to do more. So it will sit in the living room for the summer and I'll fix it in the fall. The wood is Lyptus with a mahogany stain. Thanks for looking and helping. Comments/critiques are welcome.

I get if from the Hardwood Store of North Carolina. Our kids live in that area so I order a load and pick it up while we are up there. Really nice folks.

That is one beautiful table! I would cover the entire top with coasters. :D

That finished up beautifully-- I really like the end accents and the subtle taper at the bottom of the legs-- very nicely done

All you need now is a coffee table book about coffee tables!

GREAT job, PK. Doggone thang is too purty to set anything down on! Gotta cover it with a piece of glass.

Thanks for sharing....very inspiring.

I especially like coffee tables, and yours makes the list. The wood is wonderfully suited in this design. As noted above the soft curve and tapered legs make for enjoyable viewing, a piece with some character, maybe a story.

Put your feet up, wait for the humidity to ease, and forget about the spots you see. I walk on my coffee table every week, the finish gets better with time.
Use and enjoy, thanks for sharing.
